CHENNAI: A television artiste/Movie Heroine was arrested along with two other women for prostitution by the anti-vice squad in Adyar on Friday(02.10.09). While the two women were sent to a home in Mylapore, the actor was later remanded in judicial custody.
Acting on a tip-off, the squad raided a house in Shastri Nagar on Friday morning and arrested Bhuvaneshwari alias Bhuvana alias Meena Kumari.
According to police sources, Bhuvaneshwari had been running a high-profile brothel for many years. She charged Rs 10,000 for regular clients and between Rs 25,000 and Rs 1 lakh from wealthy high-profile clients.
Besides, she also cheated her clients. She would get her client sloshed and would steal cash and gold jewellery from them. At times, she would charge a large sum of money amounting to lakhs of rupees promising to accompany the client. Instead, she would leave another girl with the client after getting him sloshed. “This way, she has cheated many people and spoilt many family relationships,” says a police source.
The actor was arrested in 2002 for prostitution at Vadapalani and later acquitted. Police sources said she was acquitted only because of her political contacts.
Bhuvaneshwari also had contacts with stunt artistes and used them to bash up those who raised their voice against her or tried to file a complaint with the police.
Even the police officers involved in her arrest in 2002 got threatening calls. The sources said actors Vinitha and Madhuri were also arrested in 2002 for prostitution but were acquitted because of their strong contacts with politicians.
“None would come as a witness in such cases. All our efforts to punish such women proved futile,” claimed a police officer.
